Listing standards

Useful, local and real.

Peninsula Plans is a curated community calendar, not an open bulletin board. These standards keep it useful without turning it into a maze of spam, sales funnels or incomplete flyers.

What belongs here

  1. 1Community events, public programs and educational opportunities
  2. 2Arts, culture, food, fitness, outdoor, family and youth activities
  3. 3Fundraisers, galas, service projects and resource events
  4. 4Candidate forums, debates, town halls, voter education, campaign events and public meetings across viewpoints
  5. 5Business, career and professional events with a clear community benefit
  6. 6Sporting events and recreational opportunities open to a public audience

What stays out

  1. 1Multi-level marketing, recruitment funnels or vague income opportunities
  2. 2Private invitations, closed meetings or events without a defined public audience
  3. 3Duplicate, outdated, misleading or unverifiable listings
  4. 4Automated recurring listings that do not represent a real scheduled event
  5. 5Content whose primary purpose is harassment, discrimination or harm
  6. 6A flyer image without enough typed information to check the event

The footprint

The beta covers Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown and Williamsburg. An event should happen in one of those places or clearly serve that Peninsula audience.

Details checked

A source is checked for the name, date, time, location, cost and organizer. The organizer's official page remains the final authority.

Neutral by design

Political events are eligible regardless of party, candidate or viewpoint. Listings identify the organizer and purpose without advocacy, and inclusion does not equal endorsement.

How personal information is handled

A submitter's name and email are used only to review the event, ask a necessary follow-up question, and protect the calendar from spam. They are not displayed with the public listing. Newsletter addresses are used only for Peninsula Plans updates. Peninsula Plans does not sell either list.

How curation works

Twylla makes the final editorial call. A submission may be edited for clarity, combined with a duplicate, declined, or removed if details change. Normal listings are free during the beta. If promoted placements are offered later, they will be clearly labeled and will never buy approval of an event that does not meet these standards.
